I Thought Coaching Was Just Motivational Hype

I used to think coaching was basically motivational hype.

You know the kind. Someone pumping you up, telling you to think positive, pushing energy when what you really need is something deeper.

The truth is, I didn’t even really know what coaching was. I just had a picture in my head, and it wasn’t something I thought I needed.

At the time, I already had plenty of motivation. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was that nothing was moving forward. Personally and professionally, it felt like we were trying everything and still getting nowhere.

That’s when Jacquelyn and I decided to talk to a life coach for the first time.

And I remember thinking, “Let’s see what this actually is.”

Our first session with Alice completely changed how I understood coaching.

It wasn’t hype. It wasn’t advice. It wasn’t someone telling us what to do.

She asked questions. The kind of questions you don’t think to ask yourself. She helped us clearly see where we were, where we were trying to go, and what was actually standing in the way.

By the end of that first session, we both felt lighter. Clearer. Hopeful. We walked away excited for the next session because, for the first time in a long time, things made sense.

That’s when it clicked for me.

Coaching isn’t about someone solving your problems for you. It’s about having someone with experience and perspective helping you think clearly, spot patterns, and find your own answers.

Because only you can actually solve your problems. A coach just helps guide you through it so you’re not doing it alone.

That experience is ultimately why I became a life coach myself.

I was skeptical. I didn’t even know what a life coach really did. But I was so tired of being stuck that I was willing to try something different.

And meeting Alice ended up being one of the most pivotal moments in our lives.

If you’re stuck right now, and you’re tired of feeling like nothing is changing, that’s exactly why I offer a Strategy Session.

There’s no commitment. We simply talk about what’s going on, what’s keeping you stuck, and whether I think I can help. We’ll also talk about what working together would actually look like.

You can say no. There’s no obligation. The goal is clarity, not pressure.
