Before I understood panic, I was convinced my body was failing me.
Chest pressure meant heart attack.
A strange sensation meant stroke.
A split second of shallow breathing meant I was about to suffocate.
Once that thought hit, the panic followed.
All I wanted was air. I remember looking for anything I could breathe into, like the bags you see people use when they can’t catch their breath. That’s how real it felt in those moments.
What made it worse was being afraid to even talk about it.
I genuinely believed that saying it out loud, or seeing someone struggle to breathe in a movie or video, could trigger it in me. Suddenly my chest felt tight. My breathing felt off. And my mind jumped straight to, “This is it.”
I became hyper-aware of everything my body did.
A tingle.
A chill.
A brief pause in breathing.
In my mind, each one meant something catastrophic was starting.
And when it happened in public, that fear multiplied. Standing in a grocery store, surrounded by people, thinking, “Do I ask someone for help? What do I even say? I was fine five seconds ago.”
What eventually changed wasn’t my body.
It was the story I was telling myself.
Once I started learning what panic actually was, I realized I had built a monster in my mind. Every sensation had been given the worst possible meaning. Panic wasn’t coming first. The catastrophic story was.
When symptoms showed up, I stopped assuming the worst.
Chest pressure became a gas bubble.
A pain became soreness from a workout or sleeping wrong.
Breathing sensations stopped meaning danger.
That shift is what changed everything for me.
This is the process I now work through with people. We slow things down, identify the stories their mind is telling, where those stories came from, and how they keep triggering panic.
That’s why I start with a Strategy Session.
I need to understand what you’re dealing with, what fears are driving it, and whether I can genuinely help. If it’s a fit, we work step by step toward the same place I’m at now: calm, control, and no longer living in fear of your own body.
